AUBURN, Maine — The State Fire Marshal’s Office, working with the Auburn Police Department, is continuing an investigation into the death of a man found outside his tent on Washington Street North on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

On Wednesday, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta confirmed the man was identified as 47-year-old Jaime Jimino, formerly of Portland. Authorities said Jimino had recently been an unhoused individual in the Auburn area.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner will continue investigating to determine the cause and manner of death. Final results are expected to take several weeks. At this time, officials said no foul play is suspected.

Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office and Auburn Police detectives remained on scene for several hours Tuesday evening, processing and examining the area. Authorities also confirmed that a small fire occurred in and around Jimino’s tent.

The investigation remains active, and officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
