A York County Sheriff’s Deputy was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital after he rear-ended a pickup truck in Waterboro on Friday, severely damaging his cruiser.
At approximately 1:00 p.m., Deputy Stephen Gould was driving a marked Sheriff’s Department cruiser southbound on Main Street in Waterboro when he rear-ended a 2015 Ford pickup operated by Matthew Cole, 44, of North Waterboro.
According to York Sheriff William King, Cole came to a stop while trying to turn east onto Hamilton Road, and Gould was unable to stop before hitting the pickup.
Following the crash, Gould was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries and released on the same day.
Cole was treated on scene and released.
The Maine State police is currently investigating the crash, and Sheriff King did not place blame on either involved party.
In his press release, King thanked media outlets for asking about the deputy’s well-being before asking about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
King did not specify how severe the damage to either vehicle was, but an image of the cruiser included in the press release suggests that the cruiser was totaled.

There is no image available of the damage to Cole’s vehicle.
The incident took place in front of 795 Main Street, where the Sheriff’s Department worked with the FBI to conduct an investigation last week.
The Sheriff’s Department provided few details on that operation and did not include any information on what was being investigated.
The Maine Wire reached out to the FBI for more details, but they referred us back to Sheriff King’s press release.
