Blood on Congress Street: Another Portland Stabbing Fuels Fears About City’s Decline

PORTLAND – Another violent scene unfolded in downtown Portland on Saturday, when police responded to a stabbing near Joe’s Super Variety on Congress Street, across from Longfellow Square. Officers shut down the area and cordoned off the scene with police tape as investigators worked the alley and sidewalk outside one of the city’s most recognizable downtown corners.

The stabbing happened near 665 Congress Street, in the area of Joe’s Super Variety and the nearby alley, according to multiple sources who spoke with the Maine Wire at the Graham Platner and Elizabeth Warren event just steps away.

Graham Platner and Elizabeth Warren throw an event in Portland, ME — a city that has been besieged by socialism. Socialist politicians and policies have dominated the city for 10 years.

So far, the publicly confirmed details remain limited. Portland city spokesperson Jessica Grondin confirmed that police were investigating a stabbing, but local reports did not include any official public confirmation Saturday night about the victim’s condition, a motive, or whether a suspect had been formally taken into custody.

That matters, because social media posts and secondhand accounts quickly began filling in blanks that police had not yet publicly addressed. Some online claims said the victim was expected to survive, while others said a suspect was already in custody. As of the reporting I reviewed, those details were still not confirmed in an official public statement.

What is confirmed is that this is not some isolated downtown anomaly. Saturday’s case was the second recent stabbing near Longfellow Square, following a November 2025 stabbing in the same area that police described as unprovoked.

For many Mainers, that is the larger story. Another stabbing. Another blood-soaked downtown crime scene. Another reminder that one of Portland’s busiest and most visible corridors keeps making news for violence instead of commerce, safety, or stability. While police continue sorting out exactly what happened, the broader public impression is already familiar: a city center that too often feels like it is slipping further from control.

No details ? Did the cops lose their notebooks ? Or is it because the midterms are too close to report the truth ? We all know what happened. This was a fight between old, angry, white, rural men, that just happen to be named “Abdul”, and “Rashid”, and probably vote Republican !
