The Oxford Sheriff’s Department is searching for a vandal responsible for painting a message of tolerance and love over public property, defacing it and costing taxpayers.

“While the message may be harmless… the execution, not so much,” said the sheriff’s department.

Oxford deputies became aware of a spray-painted message on public property in Bethel that reads “Love Wins.”

The department warned that graffiti and vandalism still constitute criminal mischief, and are crimes, regardless of the message being painted.

Taxpayers will now be on the hook for the cleanup cost to remove the inspirational quote.

The department is now searching for the culprit and is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Multiple commenters on Facebook pointed out that the message has been there since winter.

It is not clear whether the message succeeded in inspiring the people of Bethel.

Love wins. Numbnuts caused more hate than love. Odd how tolerance only works one way: their way or else!
