A Skowhegan man is facing grave consequences after he was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly vandalizing a graveyard.

Over the past week, police have been investigating a series of incidents at the Southside Cemetery in which vandals destroyed headstones and angel statues.

Following an investigation, Detective Sergeant Kelly Hooper and Detective Carolynn Taylor made contact with Christian Newton, 28, of Skowhegan.

He was a person of interest following interviews conducted by other officers.

Detectives arrested Newton on charges of aggravated criminal mischief, a class C felony, and interference with cemetery or burial grounds.

He was transported to the Somerset County Correctional Facility, where he was issued a $2,500 bail.

Newton’s mugshot shows him wearing a thematically appropriate hoodie with a skull on it at the time of his arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police believe other suspects were involved.

The police department is urging other vandals to turn themselves in.

Too bad we couldn’t have “ stocks “ in the town center .
Put clowns like this guy in them and let the people throw rocks , eggs, and rotten fruit at them .
Maybe a little extreme community humiliation would end this type of behavior from these little losers .

Doing it for fun? I doubt it. Doing it as a disciple of the Evil One? For Sure.

They had better be made to pay for the damages. It’s despicable behavior.
