PITTSFIELD, Maine — Two Pittsfield residents were arrested Wednesday night following a months-long Maine Drug Enforcement Agency investigation into fentanyl trafficking in the Pittsfield and Canaan area.
The MDEA and Bath Police Department announced Thursday that Joshua Johnson, 44, of Pittsfield, was arrested on charges of aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs. Samantha Quimby, 28, also of Pittsfield, was arrested on outstanding warrants.
According to the MDEA, agents from the South-Central Task Force had been investigating drug trafficking in the area for several months.
On April 22, agents obtained an arrest warrant for Johnson, of 128 Canaan Road in Pittsfield, charging him with three counts of aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs, specifically fentanyl. The charges stemmed from several undercover purchases of fentanyl from Johnson, according to the agency.
Agents also obtained a search warrant for the Canaan Road residence.
The Maine State Police Tactical Team served the warrants at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Johnson and Quimby were taken into custody without incident.
Quimby had outstanding arrest warrants for theft, operating after suspension, and violation of bail. Her bail was set at $1,500.
In addition to the three aggravated trafficking charges, Johnson also had arrest warrants for criminal trespass and violation of bail. Bail on the aggravated trafficking charges was set at $5,000 cash. Bail on the criminal trespass and violation of bail charges was set at $200 cash.
Both Johnson and Quimby were transported to the Somerset County Jail, where they are awaiting an initial court appearance.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The MDEA said it remains committed to working with federal, state, county, and local law enforcement partners to identify and disrupt drug trafficking organizations attempting to distribute illicit drugs, including fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, in Maine.
