
AUGUSTA — Two firefighters were injured Monday morning after an accidental fire that began while someone was working on a generator spread to a nearby home and barn on Church Hill Road in Augusta.
The Augusta Fire Department responded to the reported structure fire at approximately 9:18 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026.
According to the initial investigation, the fire began while an individual was working on a generator next to the residence. While attempting to start the generator, a spark ignited the fuel, causing the fire to spread to the nearby home and barn.
The fire has been determined to be accidental.
Two firefighters were injured during the response. One Augusta firefighter was transported to a local hospital after suffering a medical event and remains under evaluation. A Sidney firefighter sustained a minor injury, was treated at the hospital, and has since been released.

The homeowner was not injured.
Departments from Togus, Manchester, Belgrade, Sidney, Winslow, Hallowell, Winthrop and Gardiner assisted at the scene. The Augusta Police Department, Augusta Public Works and the Maine Forest Service also responded.
