A Rhode Island man wanted on five felony child molestation charges was arrested Monday at a residence in North Berwick by members of the U.S. Marshals Service-led Maine Violent Offender Task Force.
Dathon D. Wright, 32, faces three counts of First-Degree Child Molestation and two counts of Second-Degree Child Molestation stemming from a case investigated by the West Warwick Police Department in Rhode Island.
Wright was taken into custody without incident on April 14 after a multi-state fugitive investigation that spanned Rhode Island, Mass., and Maine. West Warwick detectives had requested assistance from the USMS Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force after Wright fled the state.
Investigators developed leads indicating Wright had landed in the North Berwick area. What they found when they got there made the arrest more urgent: Wright had been living with an adult female who had young children in the home.
The arrest operation involved USMS fugitive investigators, the West Warwick Police Department, the Massachusetts Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, and federal, state, and local partners across all three states.
“This arrest demonstrates how federal, state, and local partners work seamlessly across jurisdictions to identify, locate, and apprehend violent offenders who pose a direct threat to our communities, ensuring they are brought to justice and preventing further harm,” said Ryan Guay, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal.
