HIRAM, Maine — A woman is dead and a man was seriously injured after a late-night house fire Friday in the Oxford County town of Hiram, according to fire officials.

The Hiram Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at 8 Bobbin Mill Road at approximately 11:38 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026.

When firefighters arrived, they found a 2½-story residential structure with active fire conditions in both the basement and the second floor.

While crews were working at the rear of the building, responders located an adult male suffering from serious burn injuries. He was transported by Life Flight to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

During fire suppression efforts, crews were told there may have been a second occupant inside the residence. Firefighters later located an adult female victim on the upper floor of the home.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A team of State Fire Marshal investigators responded to the scene and recovered the woman’s body. Positive identification will be completed by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta.

Fire Marshal investigators are continuing to investigate the origin and cause of the fire.

Preliminary findings indicate the fire likely started in the basement area and was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction.

A final cause will be released once the investigation is complete.
