Mojo is getting extra treats these days.

The Maine Coon apparently suspected her owners’ home was filling with deadly carbon monoxide.

William Aboud tells the Midcoast Villager that one night earlier this month Mojo began loudly meowing like she had never done before.

Simultaneously Pat Aboud began complaining of severe headaches.

The cat began closely following her around their Cushing home, continuing her strange guttural meowing.

The couple, suspecting Mojo was seriously ill, began making plans to take her to the vet.

At that point Aboud, who had tried to comfort Mojo but to no avail, was having trouble walking so his wife and a friend helped get him out of the house.

They called 911 and first responders did tests, which showed high levels of carbon monoxide traced to a malfunctioning propane furnace.

Aboud was rushed to a hospital for treatment and his wife given oxygen on the scene.

Mojo is wondering what the fuss was all about.

If it was a hot air furnace, the carbon monoxide would be in the warmer air, which would be towards the ceiling, and way over the cats head, which is why the cat still alive.

Animals are very, very receptive of differences in people, and my guess is the cat noticed that something was wrong with the people she shared the house with, and very likely did save their lives.

Which goes to the point that I hope the fire department made to them,HAVE A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR if you have coal, wood, oil, kerosene, or propane heat.

I suggest having three, because if one goes off, while you should take it seriously, it is always possible that it’s a false alarm. If two go off then it’s not a false alarm and if all three go off, go out into the blizzard if need be — get out of there NOW!
