At 2:10 p.m., police received reports of a shooting in the area of 235 Bartlett Street, prompting a significant police response and leading Lewiston Public Schools Superintendent Jake Langlais to notify families.
He later said that a suspect was in custody but did not identify the alleged shooter.
Police reported that they took the suspect, Nikolas Rancourt, 22, of Turner, into custody within minutes of the shooting and secured a firearm.
No injuries were reported following the shooting.
Rancourt was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. Police did not include details on the possible motives behind the incident or the target of the gunfire.

Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline fled Maine Wire reporter Jon Fetherston when he attempted to ask about the shooting and others in the city.
After the Bartlett Street incident, another shooting was reported elsewhere in the city on Thursday night, marking three shootings in the city in under 36 hours.
