Platner Tries to Pin Iran War and Skyrocketing Gas Prices on Collins Despite Her Recent Vote to End Hostilities

As Graham Platner pivots towards a pitched battle against Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) after Gov. Janet Mills (D-Maine) dropped out of the race, he has worked to blame the incumbent for the Iran War despite her recent vote to end it.

“Americans have already paid $24 billion more for gas at the pump since Donald Trump and Susan Collins started a war in Iran for no reason. Someone want to ask Susan Collins if she agrees affordability is just a hoax,” said Platner on X.

Someone want to ask Susan Collins if she agrees affordability is just a hoax?

Platner made multiple recent posts noting the massive increase in gasoline prices caused by the Iran War, both because of bombings on energy infrastructure on both sides and the naval blockades in the Strait of Hormuz.

Gas in Maine before the war: $2.91

Gas in Maine today: $4.41.

Susan Collins voted for this.

While the war has caused the price increases, his attempts to pin those rising costs directly on Collins are a stretch, especially given her April 30 vote to end the war.

Last Thursday, Collins was one of just two Republicans to vote in favor of a War Powers Resolution to end hostilities against Iran.

That vote came just ahead of the 60-day deadline imposed by the War Powers Act that requires the president to terminate hostilities within 60 days of notifying Congress of their start unless Congress votes to authorize their continuation.

That vote ultimately failed, and the Trump Administration has maintained that the 60-day deadline was paused because of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.

Collins’ press secretary Blake Kernen confirmed in a phone call with The Maine Wire that the senator sees the War Powers deadline as being 60-days from when Congress was notified that hostilities had begun. Congress was officially notified of hostilities on March 2, meaning that the deadline expired on May 1.

Collins has been consistent in her position on the war since its outset.

At the start of the war, she expressed support for a limited bombing campaign aimed at destroying Iran’s nuclear capabilities, while maintaining that any prolonged military action would need authorization from Congress.

“The Iranian regime’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, ballistic missile development, and support for terrorist proxies pose serious threats to America’s national security and that of our allies, as well as to stability in the Middle East,” Collins said at the time.

She did vote shortly after the war began against a War Powers Resolution to force an end to the hostilities but maintained her belief in the need for congressional involvement.

After her most recent vote to end the war, she explained that she believed that the 60 day deadline is a requirement and that she will not support further hostilities until the administration can present a clear strategy for ending the conflict.

“Further military action against Iran must have a clear mission, achievable goals, and a defined strategy for bringing the conflict to a close. I voted to end the continuation of these military hostilities at this time until such a case is made,” said Collins.

As I have said since these hostilities with Iran began, the President’s authority as Commander-in-Chief is not without limits. The Constitution gives Congress an essential role in decisions of war and peace, and the War Powers Act establishes a clear 60-day deadline for Congress…

It remains to be seen whether Platner’s attempts to link Collins to voters’ pain at the gas pump will prove successful.

Nice picture of Platner, the guy with the Nazi Death’s Head tattoo, saluting someone with his out stretched arm and hand. Not sure if there are any qualifications what ever for someone to run to become a U S Senator; however, being so damaged by one’s military service that he is judged unable to hold a job and thus qualifies for a life time pension from the U S tax payers of $4800.00 a month or $57,600.00 a year, might raise a question in some peoples’ minds.

So when prices go down who will he blame? Someone needs to ask him just what he is planning to replace the system we already have with, since he and Bernie want to tear it down.

The Leftist WANT HIGHER gas prices. When gas prices rose under Biden, they cheered saying it would force people into electric cars.
