O.J. Simpson, who was the first Buffalo player to have his name enshrined in the NFL team’s Wall of Fame, is being stripped of the honor.
Once the team’s new stadium, now under construction, is finished Simpson’s name will be nowhere to be found.
Team officials said they’ve decided the name of the star player – acquitted of killing his ex-wife and her boyfriend in 1995 – will no longer be in their so-called Family Circle.
“We have made an organizational decision that he is not fit to display inside our new stadium,” team operations president Bill Guelli said over the weekend.
Simpson was the first member of the team’s Wall of Fame at the stadium that is being replaced with a new one.
Often referred to as one of the greatest running backs of all time, Simpson was the number one draft pick in 1969 and played for the Bills for eight years before joining the San Francisco 49ers for two years.
During his career, he earned the titles of most valuable player and offensive player of the year.
