A Chelsea man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges related to secretly installing cameras in the sleeping quarters of the firehouse on the Togus VA Medical Center campus in Chelsea.

Michael Nicholas, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge of making false statements to a federal official, but the plea avoided charges directly related to installing the secret cameras.

In March 2025, someone located cameras hidden in the ceilings of the Togus VA firehouse sleeping quarters.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General (VA OIG) initiated an investigation into the cameras and spoke with Nicholas.

Nicholas repeatedly denied to investigators that he knew about the cameras, had seen the cameras, or had ever purchased cameras of the brand.

Further investigation revealed that not only had Nicholas known about the cameras, but he had purchased and installed them.

His fingerprints were found on the tape on one of the cameras, and he eventually admitted to having installed them.

He faces up to five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, and a potential fine of up to $250,000.

So…..if the DA’s don’t get a conviction on installing the cameras, even with finger prints, how do they get a conviction on him lying? Hmmmmmm
