At approximately 8:40 a.m., the department responded to a Kenduskeag residence to confiscate firearms as required by a protection order.
The firearms were removed without incident, but just 20 minutes after the initial response, the Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a call reporting a suicidal person in Kenduskeag threatening to shoot himself.
Deputies responded and established a perimeter around the residence of the suicidal individual to ensure that neighbors were safe.
After a short time, Sheriff’s Department negotiators were able to convince the suicidal individual to peacefully exit the residence and surrender his firearm.
He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, after which a “yellow flag” Extreme Risk Protection Order was processed to remove his firearms.
No criminal charges are expected to stem from either incident, and they were not related.
