Fired NBC football analyst Chris Simms let it all hang out in an obscene tirade during a broadcast reunion with Pro Football Talk host Mike Florio.
Simms, a former NFL quarterback and son of NFL star thrower and two-time Super Bowl Giants champ Phil Simms, got into an argument Friday with Florio on air.
Florio and Simms were mid-course through a discussion about Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson when they took issue with each other’s feelings about Jackson’s talent.
Simms, feeling Florio was belittling him for praising Jackson’s talent, screamed at Florio to shut up.
Florio was trying to persuade Simms that the 29-year-old Jackson is beyond his prime.
“Mike who are you arguing with and what are you getting triggered about,” Simms fired back at Florio. “Like calm the F down. I’m talking about one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.”
Simms then asked Florio “why are you mad at me?” Florio, seemingly shocked, responded, “I’m not mad at you.”
Simms six months ago completed his seventh season as an analyst on “Football Night in America.”
He had joined NBC Sports nine years ago after previously working a FOX Sports and CBS Sports analyst.
Prior to getting into broadcasting, Simms built an impressive resume as a quarterback, starring at the University of Texas before being drafted in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft.
Simms started his pro career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and also played for the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos.
Shortly before being shown the door by NBC, Simms had appeared on Florio’s show offering commentary on the widely-publicized affair between Pats coach Mike Vrabel and NFL reporter Diana Russini.
But, Florio quickly cut Simms’ mic, allegedly afraid of possible legal liability if Simms kept yapping.
NBC had apparently already heard enough, deciding to exclude Simms from its restructuring of Sunday Night Football.
