Officers responded to 11th Avenue after a high-priority report of an adult man allegedly threating his neighbors with a hammer.

Police arrived and identified the suspect as Jacob Brewer, 46, of Madawaska.

Officers attempted to take him into custody, but he allegedly resisted.

Eventually, officers deployed a taser to subdue Brewer, who nevertheless allegedly continued to resist arrest.

Despite the resistance, police eventually took Brewer into custody.

He allegedly displayed signs of severe mental illness during the incident, and was therefore transportedby ambulance to the Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent for a psychological evaluation.

Brewer was assessed and released from the hospital, and transported to the Aroostook County Jail.

He was charged with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct, and refusing to submit to arrest.

Police initially reported that he had been released on bail before correcting their release on Wednsday evening to clarify that he had actually not been released.
