The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department released the name of an inmate who was found dead in her cell on Saturday just house after her arrest.

On Thursday, police identified the woman as Jodi Melanson, 39, of Eastport, after previously witholding her name pending notification of her next of kin.

She had reportedly been arrested on charges of criminal mischief and theft when she was found unresponsive inside her cell.

Corrections officers attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

Melanson was given a medical examination, as is standard procedure for jail admissions, prior to her death.

Officers said there were no reported altercations between Melanson and other inmates or staff during her brief incarceration, and a preliminary investigation suggested that she suffered a medical event.

Testing reports from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner remain pending.

Was the photo taken before or after she died ?

Poor creature. Likely a slave to either big pHARMa addiction or fentanyl, meth, etc.

Louise you kill me! I was thinking the same thing! Hopefully she has found peace that she evidently never had before.
