PORTLAND, Maine — Portland Police officers responded to nearly 1,500 calls for service during the first week of June, according to the department’s latest weekly public safety report.

From June 1 through June 7, officers handled 1,479 calls across the city. The department said the weekly release is part of its continued effort to provide transparency to the public by sharing call volume, select incidents, arrest data, and other law enforcement activity.

Weekly arrest logs and daily media logs are also available through the city’s police statistics page at portlandmaine.gov/PDstats.

The latest numbers offer a snapshot of the volume and variety of calls handled by Portland officers in a single week, ranging from emergency calls and disturbances to motor vehicle stops, pedestrian checks, arrests, and major criminal incidents.

According to the department, the top arrest charges during the week included warrants and assault, with 10 arrests each. Police also reported nine arrests for unlawful possession of drugs, eight arrests for theft, and seven arrests for violating conditions of release.

The call data also showed a high number of public safety and quality-of-life calls. The most common call category was 911 hang-up calls, with 155 reported during the week. Officers also responded to 120 calls involving persons bothering, 81 motor vehicle stops, 64 disturbances, and 63 pedestrian checks.

One of the more serious incidents highlighted by the department occurred on June 3 at approximately 10 p.m., when a Portland Police officer was patrolling the area of Portland and Hanover Streets and observed a disturbance.

During the encounter, the officer located a 23-year-old man who reported that he had been stabbed in the back. The victim was transported to Maine Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Shortly after the stabbing was reported, Portland Police located and took a suspect into custody. Police arrested a 34-year-old Portland man and charged him with elevated aggravated assault, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, and violating conditions of release.

The man was also arrested on five outstanding warrants and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

The June 3 stabbing was among the select calls released by the department as part of its weekly reporting, underscoring the range of incidents officers responded to during the seven-day period.

The department also noted that on June 6, officers helped facilitate another safe Old Port half marathon.

The weekly numbers come as Portland Police continue to publish regular updates on call volume, arrest activity, and select incidents through the city’s public safety reporting system. The department said the reports are intended to give residents a clearer look at the work officers are handling throughout the city each week.

For the week of June 1 through June 7, that work included hundreds of emergency calls, dozens of arrests, and more than 1,400 total calls for service.
