Jennifer Gingrich sounds like a leftist when she calls herself a feminist but then she blows her cover by adhering to some logical principles, like keeping boys out of girls locker rooms.
“Humans can’t change sex and men don’t belong in girls spaces or sports,” Gingrich’s X profile says as a precursor.
So Gingrich caught it from all sides over the weekend when she posted a personal essay on X describing how she believes the state’s largest city has gone to pot.
Here’s what she posted for her 44,000 followers and anyone else interested:
“Portland, Maine – which was a thriving, vibrant city just 20 years ago – now has nearly half of its storefronts boarded up.
“Our only department store closed six months ago because they were losing too much money from shoplifting. We lost the downtown grocery and hardware stores before that.
“There is one place left in all of downtown where you can buy a Father’s Day card: the CVS drugstore. It’s open until 10 pm on Saturdays.
“I got there at 5:15 to a sign on the door: ‘We closed early at 5 pm. Sorry for the inconvenience.
“That happens constantly in the businesses that are left. Even the post office just randomly closes early.
“I had to walk through a homeless encampment scattered with needles that has taken over the sidewalk on Spring Street to get to the movie theater the other day. On Congress Street, there are addicts overdosing in the bus shelters.
“It’s unbelievable how fast this city went downhill. It was a cool place to live two decades ago.”
No sooner had Gingrich posted that viewed-by-146,000 assessment than the pushback on X got so nasty, including blaming her for being a pro-Israel Jew, that she replied as follows:
“OK, I’ve never done this before but I’m going to mute my own thread. I don’t have time to keep up with all the people shrieking at me that I’m to blame for the decline of this city because I’m Jewish or because of who they assume I voted for.
“Enjoy yourselves and your stupidity.”

Don’t worry about it Jennifer !
I posted a thread a wee back in support of a small town enacting an ordinance to prevent junk and trash piles in people’s front yards . No old washers and dryers , bed mattresses , derelict cars , eye sore junk hoarded and proudly displayed as a tribute to “ it’s MY land and I can do with it what I want “ .
I got summarily scolded by the majority of readers .
So …..it’s all fair and love and war , so if Portland wants to do this to itself , then so be it , it’s “theirs “ ( who’s ? ) after all .
Personal freedom and rugged yankee independence forever !
Maine and cities like Portland , Bangor , Lewiston will never again be what they used to be .
Don’t worry about it .
Of course the banshees are wailing; they can’t handle the truth for the problems THEY created. Screw them!
Well Said Jennifer! I stand behind you as a Christian Brother of the Jewish Faith and I will defend your right to speak the truth until my last breath!
Sounds like there were torches and pitchforks all the way around on this one. Portland was a great place to be 20 years ago, even 10 but it’s gone downhill because of the greedy bureaucrats! Needle exchange programs which just enable the drug problems, outlawing common sense and a Communist regime in the state house.
As a general rule, leftist policy results in decay and ruin. We see it time and time again. People of means vote with their feet, and flee democrat governance.
Unfortunately, too often those who move take their voting preference with them. Soon the place they fled to turns into the same bastion of failed government that they left in the first place.
One thing is clear: The democrat party cannot govern long term. Sooner or later you run out of other people’s money.
It’s interesting to see how differently people view the changes in their communities over the years. Personal experiences like these often spark important discussions, even when opinions vary. Hopefully, the focus stays on finding practical solutions instead of turning the conversation into personal attacks. On another note, someone recently recommended inat box iphone for people looking for iOS-related information, and after checking it out, it seems like a useful resource for those who want to learn more about using it on Apple devices.
