A woman was flown by LifeFlight to a Bangor hospital after her family, including two young children, were hit by a vehicle on a Lincoln sidewalk.

Lincoln Police arrested Carl Hartley, 57, of Mattawamkeag on Saturday and charged him with operating under the influence and possession of drugs, according to i95rocks.com’s Cindy Campbell.

Officials say he was allegedly in possession of methamphetamine.

The incident happened at approximately 3:20 pm at the intersection of Main Street and West Broadway in Lincoln.

Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving multiple pedestrians, including one that was trapped underneath the vehicle.

When the officers and Lincoln firefighters arrived, they were able to safely get the 24-year-old woman out from under the vehicle.

Her injuries were serious enough for officials to send her by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

The other victims of the crash included a 29-year-old man, a 5-year-old child, and a 3-month-old infant.

An investigation into the incident determined that the vehicle had traveled through the intersection, left the roadway, and drove into the sidewalk, striking the family of four as they were walking.

After conducting field sobriety tests, and an Intoxilyzer test, officials determined the driver, Carl Hartley, was not under the influence of alcohol.

However, a certified Drug Recognition Expert from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office observed signs consistent with drug impairment.

He reportedly refused to participate and so a warrant was obtained to collect a blood sample.

A search of the vehicle found illegal drugs that tested positive for methamphetamine and additional drug-related contraband.
