Poll Shows American Pride Falls to Record Low as Nation Marks 250th Anniversary

As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, a newly released Gallup poll suggests national pride has fallen to its lowest level in the survey’s history, highlighting deep political and generational divides over how Americans view their country.

The poll found that only 33 percent of Americans say they are “extremely proud” to be American, while another 20 percent say they are “very proud.” Combined, just 53 percent of respondents describe themselves as either extremely or very proud of the United States—a decline from 58 percent one year ago and a sharp drop from the patriotic surge that followed the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, when roughly nine in ten Americans expressed high levels of national pride.

The results reveal a stark partisan split.

Among Republicans, 70 percent said they are extremely proud to be American. That number falls to 28 percent among independents and just 14 percent among Democrats, the lowest level Gallup has recorded for Democrats since the organization began asking the question in 2001.

The survey also found that younger Americans are significantly less likely than older generations to express strong national pride, continuing a long-term trend Gallup says has accelerated in recent years.

The findings come just days after communities across Maine and the nation celebrated America’s 250th birthday with parades, fireworks, concerts, veterans’ tributes, and other patriotic events. Across the country, millions gathered to commemorate the nation’s founding despite increasingly polarized views about its history, direction, and future.

A separate survey conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) reached a similar conclusion. That poll found 51 percent of Americans describe themselves as either extremely or very proud to be American, down from 82 percent in 2013.

Even as expressions of national pride have declined, the Gallup survey found patriotism remains widespread in other forms. Approximately two-thirds of Americans said they planned to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary, with respondents most often citing America’s freedoms and the opportunities afforded by the country as reasons for their pride.

The poll underscores a growing divide in how Americans perceive the country at a historic moment. While millions participated in celebrations honoring the nation’s founding, fewer Americans than ever before say they are deeply proud to call themselves American, a shift driven largely by partisan and generational differences that continue to reshape the country’s political and cultural landscape.

The US was attacked in 2001 by al-Qaeda Terrorist. Thousands were murdered by this attacks. Our President (Bush 2) told Americans that these attacks would be avenged? Our countries patriotism was at a high due to these attacks by the Militant Islamist Organization.

In 2008 our nation voted and we had our first Black President of few religious convictions who claimed to have become Protestant in 1988. Barack was raised by his father who was Muslim, but who claimed to be atheist? The 8 years of Obama were the beginning of the US decline with a flood of Muslim’s infiltrating our country coming here not to escape oppression and assimilate to the United States, but to secretly infiltrate our country to take it over. Obama claimed to toughen immigration policy, but set up programs to protect Dreamers. Obama really divided more than united our country.

Then 2016 rolls around and the fail of Hillary for President was when the Democrats went off the rails with the help of much of the GOP. Enter Donald Trump who was not a career politician and was not in favor of Washington Politics status quo! He was going to drain the swamp, that meant shady Republican’s as well!

The rest of the story was created by the China Virus (Covid) and the stolen election by Joe Biden in 2020. Joe was the worst person to sit in the white house. I would never call him my President. His administration did more damage to our country in 4 years than all before him. I blame the GOP for being soft on the administration and not bringing up impeachment charges against Biden for not protecting our borders.

Both parties are to blame for our decline in patriotism, but the Democrats are not the Party of old. Socialism will not work in a Capitalist society.

Face it; Dumocrats are only prideful and happy when they’re getting their way! It ain’t happenin’ now because the ‘Boss’ is in Washington. During the abysmal years of Barak Insane Obama and Purvey Joe, my love and pride for our beautiful country never faltered a bit. My disdain for the leadership didn’t cloud my pride at all in who we are. This is a prime example of how devastating TDS is and its bad enough to bring in the CDC and treat it as a pandemic!

It just goes to show how fragile and easily manipulated so many people are. Without a perceived common enemy to many people are unbelievably willing to turn on each other.

People don’t seem to grasp that we live in the greatest nation on Earth. Not perfect and never will be in everyone’s minds.

The enemy is our governments that are bent on controlling us with taking one little freedom at a time away from us. As a people, to many just can’t seem to handle prosperity.

Hats off to the Mainer’s who went down to staff the Maine both at the DC fair. Our Democratic State Offices refused to do it due to TDS. The leading contender. Ms. Pingre, has not lifted a finger as well as her Mother, The Congress Woman from Maine, have not helped push our State to those in attendance. Do they really like Maine? or hate Trump that much?

Why wouldn’t it. It’s not the America I grew up in. A shell of it’s former self but apparently that’s the way the Democrats want it. In some way I hope they get exactly what they wish for. I only hope I’m still around to witness the misery

@Sandy feet
The Marxo-fascist democrat Pingree bitches are from Minnesota, and at least one of them went back to cheer on the anti-ICE protesters there fairly recently. To answer your questions:
“Do they really like Maine?”
They like the nature, the ocean, lobster, and their high-priced real estate. I’d imagine they have nothing but contempt for Mainers though. I’ve talked to a few other people from away who (because I am from away myself, and they just assume I must feel the same way) have essentially told me the same thing over the years… with one couple telling me recently that they wished all town positions could just be occupied by people from away, because we’re more competent, or some such drivel. Mind you: I’ve talked with far, far more from away folk who love Maine’s culture and sincerely enjoy and admire Maine’s natives. (But I digress….)
“Or hate Trump that much?”
TDS has caused the already rational-thinking-challenged democrats (mostly boomers) to lose their proverbial sh*t completely. They’d support the devil himself if he promised to rid this country of Trump and MAGA folk. These are weak-minded, sick people who need help.
