The Robbins family has announced the death of Alden J. Robbins, who died on July 2, 2026, from injuries he sustained in the devastating explosion and fire at Robbins Lumber on May 15.
In a statement released Friday through the Maine Department of Public Safety, the family said Robbins passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones after a weeks-long fight to recover from his injuries.
“It is with profound sadness that the Robbins family announces the passing of Alden J. Robbins,” the family said. “We are heartbroken by the loss of a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.”
The family described Robbins as the heart of their family, saying he fought with “extraordinary courage and determination” throughout his recovery so he could spend more time with those he loved.
The statement also expressed gratitude to the medical staff at Maine Medical Center in Portland and the Sumner Redstone Burn Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, praising their skill, compassion, and dedication during Robbins’ treatment.
The family thanked the many people who offered support in the weeks following the explosion, including employees, friends, neighbors, members of Maine’s forest products industry, first responders, and people from across the state and beyond.
According to the family, a celebration of Robbins’ life will be announced at a later date.
The family also requested privacy as they mourn their loss.
Following the family’s announcement, the Maine Department of Public Safety issued its own statement extending condolences.
“The Department of Public Safety extends its sincere condolences to the Robbins family on the loss of Alden Robbins,” the department said. “Our thoughts remain with his loved ones, the Robbins Lumber family, and everyone affected by this tragedy. We ask that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
The May 15 explosion and fire at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont prompted a massive emergency response and remains one of Maine’s most significant industrial accidents in recent years. State investigators have been working to determine the cause of the explosion, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Robbins’ death marks another tragic chapter for the family, the company, and the Searsmont community as they continue to cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
