Five children and two adults escaped injury after a residential fire caused significant damage to the second floor of an Oakland home early Sunday morning.

The Oakland Fire Department responded to the fire at 87 Libby Hill Road before requesting assistance from investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal at approximately 1 a.m. on July 26.

Initial observations indicated the fire began inside a juvenile’s bedroom, according to state officials. The blaze caused extensive damage to the second floor of the residence.

All seven people who were inside the home at the time of the fire were able to escape without injury.

Investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal are working alongside the Oakland Fire Department to determine the fire’s origin and cause.

The investigation remains active, and authorities said no additional information will be released until it is completed.
