Patients at hospitals owned by Central Maine Healthcare may be eligible for up to $5,000, plus a year of free medical records monitoring.
This is part of a $1.3 million settlement the company reached over a data breach last year in which patients’ names, birth dates, Social Security numbers and health information may have been accessed.
The breach, however, was not discovered by the company until June.
Affected individuals must submit a claim by September 28, 2026. Claim forms and additional details are available here on the settlement’s official website.
Those without documentation may submit a claim for an estimated $50.
By the end of last year, Central Maine Healthcare had sent letters to 218,884 individuals informing them that their information may have been compromised as a result of the breach.
Six class action lawsuits were filed on behalf of affected patients and were eventually consolidated into a single case. The $1.3 million settlement follows months of mediation and includes no admission of wrongdoing or liability by the company in making these payments.
A hearing is scheduled for October 28 at 9am at the Androscoggin County Superior Court at which time the court will decide whether or not to grant final approval for the settlement.
Letters have been sent notifying Central Maine Healthcare patients of the settlement.
With all this fraud committed by so called new Mainer invaders it’s not surprising that eventually the medical system would be hacked for purposes not exposed yet?
About 3 1/2 years ago the state of Maine (Mainecare) was hacked I read the notice my uncle received about it.
There just like this article everything from birth dates, social security numbers, medical condition and treatment was gained from that exposure.
You would think the Mills administration would have done something back then to stop the fraud unless of course she knew all about it. The billing and hacking of medical records has all been under her watch!!!
