The Lewiston Police Department arrested a man twice on Tuesday after he allegedly provided a false name to officers, then later threatened them with a crowbar.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on Birch Street after observing a vehicle almost strike another car.
After the officer initiated the stop, the suspect’s vehicle struck a curb and got a flat tire.
During the stop, the driver told officers that his name was Kim Thurlow and allegedly refused to comply with lawful commands from police.
He was then arrested and charged with falsifying physical evidence and refusing to submit to arrest, and transported to the Androscoggin County Jail.
The investigation led officers to determine that the suspect had allegedly provided a false name and that he was actually Jeremy Leavitt, 56, of Poland.
By the time his real identity was confirmed, Leavitt had already been released on bail, and officers initiated a search for him.
He was located at his residence in Poland.
Officers arrived with assistance from the Androscoggin Sheriff’s Department and attempted to take him into custody.
He allegedly approached law enforcement with a crowbar and refused officers’ commands again, prompting officers to deploy tasers and take him into custody again.
He was issued additional charges of failure to give correct name, address, or date of birth, refusing to submit to arrest (second offense), criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest by physical force.
