Stand up for Free Speech at USM

Are you as concerned as I am about campus leftists shutting down debate on urgent public policy issues?

Do you agree that Maine and America need to have immigration policies in place that protect US citizens?

If the answer is “yes,” I encourage you to show up at the University of Southern Maine in Portland on Thursday, February 16th for an event sponsored by the USM campus chapter of Young Americans for Freedom. They have invited me to speak about the bill I’m sponsoring to ensure that municipalities in Maine comply with federal immigration law.

As soon as the event was announced, a group called Students for USMFuture called on the university to cancel my appearance. To his credit, USM President Glenn Cummings informed the protesters that the event will take place. Dr. Cummings is encouraging students to be civil and to respect the free-speech rights of speakers whose views may be at odds with the prevailing liberal orthodoxy on campus.

It starts at the Wishcamper Center on the USM campus in Portland. We expect a big turnout, so I would advise folks to show up at 6 pm if you want to be sure of getting in.

A leftist group in Portland has announced a protest demonstration, and they are encouraging students to be disruptive.

I remain confident that cooler heads will prevail, and that students who disagree with my proposed legislation will engage in civil discourse.

See you Thursday at USM!
