A Portland high school was evacuated Monday morning after police received an unfounded text message claiming there was in active shooter in the school, according to a Portland Police Department press release.
The Portland Regional Communication center received a 911 text at 9:21 a.m. Monday stating there was an active shooter in Casco Bay High School.
Officers who arrived on the scene were told by school staff that they were unaware of the text.
School officials made the decision to evacuate all students to a nearby location, and fifteen Portland Police officers secured the perimeter of the school and began their search.
The Portland Fire Department also staged medics in the area.
The School Department brought students back into the school after officers completed their search and deemed the school all clear with no threats.
Last week, Westbrook High School was put in lockdown over a report that a student was in possession of a firearm.
School officials and the school resource officer were able to locate the 14-year-old male student and recover the weapon, who according to the Superintendent was in possession of the firearm but did not point it at anyone.
The student was later charged with the theft of a firearm and terrorizing.
