Florida Governor and current second-place 2024 Republican presidential primary candidate Ron DeSantis announced the formation of his campaign’s Maine leadership team Wednesday.
The team of three includes former House Republican Leader and attorney Josh Tardy, Senate Minority Leader Trey Stewart (R-Aroostook), and State Rep. Reagan Paul (R-Winterport).
“Ron DeSantis’ leadership stands out to me like no Republican candidate has before, and that’s why I am proud to endorse DeSantis for President. He is truly the only candidate who can defeat Joe Biden and get the job done for Americans with no drama and no excuses,” former top Republican lawmaker Josh Tardy said in a DeSantis campaign press release.
Sen. Ted Cruz won the 2016 Maine Republican presidential caucus with 45.9 percent of the vote, beating Donald Trump by over 13 points.
In 2020, as the incumbent, Trump won the state’s primary contest effectively uncontested.
“I am endorsing Ron DeSantis for President because he is the fighter we need to lead our Great American Comeback,” Senate Minority Leader Stewart explained. “We have seen Joe Biden do so much damage to this country and hardworking Mainers are struggling under Bidenomics.”
“2024 is our chance to reverse our nation’s decline and Ron DeSantis is the only leader in the race who can do that. I’ve seen what he’s done to make Florida the best state to do business and we need his strong leadership in the White House,” Stewart said.
DeSantis continues to fall behind Trump in national polling, down over 40 points in the Real Clear Politics 2024 GOP primary polling average, though maintaining his lead over the third-place candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
“Joe Biden is accelerating America’s decline and endangering my generation’s future,” said Rep. Paul, who is Gen-Z and flipped District 37’s blue seat in 2022. “We need a young, conservative leader in the White House with a fixed moral compass who will fight for the American people again.”
“Ron DeSantis is the only leader who can beat Joe Biden, reverse the decline, and revive America’s future. I am proud to endorse him for President,” Paul said.
I don’t really know Rep Paul so I can’t speak for her but am surprised at Tardy and Stewart. We are not a white pure society and the fact DeSantis is trying to make it that way is shameful. Banning books, history and LGBTQ from our society maybe for some but I don’t believe it is the majority and wonder where their future will be in joining this campaign. Not looking good for any of them.
He’s a great governor but not for President. He didn’t get very high regard on his over seas trip to the EU.
He’s not what we need for prime time. His polling is falling every day.
We shouldn’t waste GOP resources on trying to elect the unelectable.
Joyce Maker, as Republican who endorsed Mills I am not surprised at your comments.
