Mass Man Pleads Guilty to Trafficking Fentanyl to Biddeford Couple

A Massachusetts man pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in Portland to supplying a Biddeford couple with fentanyl to sell in southern Maine.

Darwin Mateo, 24, of Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute, and faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million, followed by a minimum of three years and up to a lifetime of supervised release.

According to court records, law enforcement encountered Mateo while executing a search warrant at a Biddeford residence belonging to Michael and Jessica Bolster.

Investigators found two large bundles of a mixture containing a total of approximately 541 grams fentanyl inside the Biddeford residence, one of which was inside a backpack locked inside of a bedroom, federal prosecutors said.

Court records state that Mateo admitted to investigators that the backpack was his, and that he had traveled from Massachusetts to Maine to distribute the fentanyl.

Michael Bolsterย pleaded guilty on Jan. 18, 2024, for his role in the trafficking conspiracy and faces from five up to 40 years in prison.ย 

Jessica Bolsterย pleaded guilty on Feb.21, 2024, and faces up to 20 years.ย 

All three defendants will be sentenced at a later date following the completion of a presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
