Darwin Mateo, 24, of Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute, and faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million, followed by a minimum of three years and up to a lifetime of supervised release.

Investigators found two large bundles of a mixture containing a total of approximately 541 grams fentanyl inside the Biddeford residence, one of which was inside a backpack locked inside of a bedroom, federal prosecutors said.

Court records state that Mateo admitted to investigators that the backpack was his, and that he had traveled from Massachusetts to Maine to distribute the fentanyl.
