The City of Portland Parks Division will be hosting its second annual “Tree Hugging Event” this May.

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Deering Oaks Park.

“Join this family-friendly community gathering and help celebrate all of the trees in our Forest City!” the city wrote in a press release regarding the event.

According to a flyer for the event, in addition to “Hug a tree,” planned activities for the event include joining the city’s park ranger for a “sensory awakening and forest bathing session,” a “Story time,” touching a forestry truck, and meeting city employees in the Parks Division.

A “forest bath” refers to a Japanese meditation technique where one spends time in a forest or natural environment that has become trendy in the United States.
