The Maine branch of AARP, a non-profit medical lobbyist, which also provides Medicare supplement insurance and other healthcare benefits, is promoting a pride event in which it will screen a documentary about Maine’s gay bars, to be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and other left-wing advocates.
“With approximately 1,000,000 of our members self-identifying as LGBTQ+, AARP has one of the largest LGBTQ+ constituents of any membership organization. We are grateful for the continued support of the LGBTQ+ community in our vital work,” said AARP while promoting the event.
At the event, which will be held on Friday at Husson University’s Gracie Theatre, AARP will be showing the “Bar Stories from Queer Maine” documentary.
AARP, which claims to be a non-partisan lobbyist for the rights and healthcare of the elderly, and which has received federal, taxpayer-funded grants, has nevertheless spent money and effort pushing far-left Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and LGBT talking points.
The documentary features interviews of people who have attended the state’s gay bars and proprietors of the establishments.
The trailer for the documentary, which is promoted on AARP’s website, features a clip from an interview with one woman who celebrates her first time attending a lesbian bar while underage.
Following the showing, AARP members and other attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions of the film’s creators, along with other left-wing activists.
One of the co-directors, Betsy Carson, is a vegan activist, while the other, Wendy Chapkis, is a professor of gender studies and sociology at the University of Southern Maine.
Other guests include Steve Bull, who features in the documentary, was the founder of the “Maine Gay Task Force” in the 1970s, and serves on the advisory committee for the LGBTQ+ Collection at the University of Southern Maine.
Another guest, Theo Greene, teaches sociology at Bowdoin College, and is the author of a book entitled Not in MY Gayborhood: Gay Neighborhoods and the Rise of the Vicarious Citizen.
The Maine AARP has been promoting the event in advertisements, with banner ads appearing on the Bangor Daily News website, inviting people to attend the event which is entitled “Bar Stories-Our Stories.”
AARP has fully embraced the LGBT agenda, despite claiming to be nonpartisan, and prominently features a page on its website dedicated to the “LGBTQ+ Community,” which holds an article on its front page instructing elderly members in “How to Gracefully Handle Your Grandchild Changing Pronouns.”
“AARP’s unwavering commitment to the LGBTQ+ community reflects our core belief in the dignity, worth, and potential of every individual. We reject discrimination based on a person’s age, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We see diversity as a source of strength. For us, LGBTQ+ communities are a vital part of the quilt of American life,” said AARP.
I’ve despised AARP for 20 years at least. AARP is diabolical.
Just another reason why I always ripped up their crap every time it comes in the mail. AMAC is the way to go for seniors.
The “conservative” Ray Richardson often has the ME-AARP Director on his WLOB radio show. Never understood why. They’re an organization fully infiltrated by Lefties.
Thats why i will never be a member aarp
By the way, the AMAC is an organization that considers itself “the conservative alternative to the AARP.”
Always send the envelope back empty, a small gesture but it does cost AARP something.
Log Cabin Republicans – have you ever heard of them?
As mentioned above rather than send AARP’s prepaid envelope back empty I stuff it full of unwanted other junk mail, wheel weights and any other material that will fit with the goal of having AARP pay additional ounce (s) of postage due. I’ll never forget how AARP always opposes property tax relief.
Does AMAC offer the same level of health insurance as the lefty AARP?
Called and cancelled aarp. Reason, they do not represent me.
Have not been a member for years. They do discriminate and divide people and all for the Democrat party.
Which bars? I’m sure they aren’t too hard to identify if you happen to walk by or look in the door
