A Penobscot man is facing up to 20 years in prison after being convicted of the possession of child sexual abuse material for the second time, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine announced Friday.
Kevin Lee Ross, 62, was found guilty on Friday by a federal jury in U.S. District Court in Bangor after a one-and-a-half-day trial.
Ross was previously convicted of the same charge in 2014, and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Ross was in Possession of child sexual abuse material on several of his personal devices between May 2013 and April 2023.
In 2021, when Ross was on supervised release for his 2014 conviction, probation officers searched his home and vehicle and found a cell phone, laptop and external hard drive that contained both images and video of child sexual abuse, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The laptop and hard drive were used by Ross prior to serving his federal prison sentence for the 2014 conviction, and he started using the devices again after being released from prison in 2021, prosecutors alleged during trial.
After his second conviction, Ross now faces a minimum of 10 years and up to 20 years in prison, to be followed by five years to life of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
