A new poll from Emmerson College suggests that Democrats would fare better with President Joe Biden as their candidate than they would if they replace him as the nominee, despite his catastrophic performance at the first presidential debate.

Emmerson College asked respondents how they would vote if various Democrats were to run for president against former President Trump, including many of the people who have been discussed as potential replacements for President Biden as the party nominee.
The poll found that, although President Trump is currently ahead of Biden by three points nationally, his lead would likely increase if he were to face many of the other potential replacements.
Speculated replacements have included Vice President Kamala Harris, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-V.T.), Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, among others, many of who were defeated by Biden during the 2020 Democrat primary.
Out of all the proposed replacement candidates, Vice President Harris would fare the best, retaining the same 43 percent support as Biden, but fewer voters would be undecided, and Trump’s support would rise to 49 percent, defeating her by six points.
Trump would beat Sen. Sanders by six points, Gov. Newsom by eight points, and Buttigieg by 10 points.
The poll also considered a potential rematch between Hillary Clinton and Trump, which would see Trump win by seven points, and even a race between Trump and Al Gore, where Trump would maintain a five point lead.
Interestingly, the poll did not consider a potential matchup between Trump and Michelle Obama, despite widespread speculation that she could run as the Democrat nominee.
The poll also found that, if third party candidates are factored in, Trump’s lead over Biden would increase from three to four points, aligning with previous polls which suggest that independent candidates like Robert Kennedy Jr. are more likely to draw votes from Biden than Trump.
Emmerson College found that Biden’s debate performance has had a significant negative effect on his chances, dropping from 45 percent support compared to Trump’s 46 percent in June to the current 43 percent.

The poll also found that Republicans are far more motivated to vote than Democrats, with 78 percent saying that they are extremely motivated to vote, compared with only 65 percent of Democrats.
Despite speculation that Biden will be replaced, and numerous polls showing that Biden will lose to Trump, he has continued to maintain that he will not drop out of the race.
Interesting that the one person who would beat Trump was left off the list – RFK Jr.
Weird.
Sort of like how they refuse to do even a simple MRI for Biden. Almost like they don’t want to know what it would reveal. Is that how you would treat your father?
Oh well. What could go wrong? It’s only the most geopolitically tense period since the Cuban Missile Crisis. It’s fine to have an incapacitated President. Right?
RFK is just as bad for America as any other democrat, he talks a good line but he is still a democrat and a Kennedy not to be trusted. A man that drives his wife to suicide is not a person I want in the Oval office.
Stealing is always on the list of options for the dems. Last election I went to bed about 11:00pm with Trump in a big lead, certain that it was decided. Woke up to find that he lost. What a difference six hours makes. Magic if you believe in that.
I just want my money to work for me, not go some slacker.
Democrats wanted Competent Biden.
Republicans expected Dementia Biden.
What America saw was Schizophrenic Joe!
First he made sense, then he didn’t.
His train of thought kept derailing.
There was creepy Joe, senile Joe,
babbling Joe, mumbling Joe, scary Joe
and ‘GET OFF MY LAWN!’ Joe.
Through it all, America saw an empty suit that had no business being President!
Get a room ready at the home. Joey’s moving in in January!
