Rockland Police announced on Tuesday that they have arrested a man suspected of burglarizing a museum and stealing tools from a job site earlier this summer.

Robert Kyle Grierson, 42, of Rockland, was arrested last Wednesday on multiple counts of felony theft, burglary, and violating conditions of release.

Police say the arrest comes as the result of their investigation into two burglaries that occurred on June 30 and July 23, involving the theft of property from the Sail, Power and Steam Museum in Rockland’s south end, and the theft of power tools from a job site in the area of Jefferson Street.

According to Rockland Police, further charges are expected to be brought this week in relation to several other open burglary cases from this summer, including other incidents of theft in which Grierson is a person of interest.

So far in 2024, Rockland has seen about a 55 percent increase in burglaries and thefts over 2023, with several cases involving thefts from unlocked vehicles, garages and outbuildings, police said.

In response to the uptick in thefts, Rockland Police is piloting a project called “Connect and Protect” aimed at connecting law enforcement with people in the community to answer questions about how residents can keep themselves and their property safe.

Residents can contact the Rockland Police Department to set up a meeting with an officer at their home or business for advice on “ways community members can improve their home or business safeguards and discuss what trends or issues Rockland Police are seeing every day.”
