In response to a series of shooting incidents in recent weeks, the Lewiston Police Department, alongside city officials and the Androscoggin County district attorney, will be holding a press conference Thursday to announce their plan to increase public safety.

The press conference is slated to be held at the Lewiston City Hall Council Chambers at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

City officials, Lewiston Police Chief David St. Pierre, Androscoggin County District Attorney Neil McLean, and “community partners and stakeholders” will be at the press conference to “discuss the recent uptick in violence in the community and to announce plans for immediate action and future community engagement to reduce incidences of violence within the community.”

The plan, according to the city’s announcement of the press conference, will include increased law enforcement presence, enhanced coordination between Lewiston Police and state and federal law enforcement, “innovative approaches to community engagement,” and a call to action to the state legislature and judicial system.

Several shootings have occurred in Lewiston in recent weeks, most recently at a refugee group’s back-to-school event with over 300 hundred attendees at McGraw Park last Friday.

Last week, a juvenile male was injured in a drive-by shooting near the intersection of Pine and Jefferson Street in Lewiston, and last month a 17-year-old male was killed in a shooting at a public housing complex — one of three shootings that same weekend.

Following the shooting at the back-to-school event, Lewiston Police Chief St. Pierre and Superintendent Jake Langlais released a joint statement on Wednesday to address the community’s concerns over gun violence.

“We all want to rest easy knowing that the people we love and care about are safe,” the joint statement read. “Lewiston can be a safe place for everyone if we work together to stop gun violence in our community.”

“We are looking forward to welcoming students, teachers, and staff back to school tomorrow, and partnering with the entire community to create a safer Lewiston for all of us,” St. Pierre and Langlais stated.

The police chief and superintendent announced that they will be placing extra police patrols at all Lewiston schools.

“We always remind everyone: ‘If you see something – say something – so we can do something.’ It takes us all!” they stated.

Funny how fun violence was never a problem until the demographics of Lewiston (and Portland) changed. The populations of these cities in Maine have now reached a critical mass and we have begun to see the sort of criminal behavior we typically find in the diverse areas elsewhere in the country. Drive-by shootings, turfs wars, vendettas, and “youths” “wilin’ out” are becoming at least biweekly events. Now the same people (OC) responsible for the crime are calling for the rest of us to spend our money and sacrifice our freedoms so they can wage the same ineffective war on “gun violence” that has failed everywhere else in the country. Isn’t it funny how they said that the war on drugs was ineffective and legalization was the way forward, but they hold the polar opposite position on guns despite the same failures after decades of trying.

The government funded “ Christian “ NGOs are to blame for a lot of this .
They ” sponsor “ these freeloaders , bring them into OUR state , give the kids a new backpack , give them some food stamps , find them a bed in a “ shelter “, kick them lose , then wash their hands and go find some more .
Janet Mills and her insane desire to bring SEVENTY FIVE THOUSAND into OUR state is also to blame . People who are born here have to leave because they can’t find work ( that pays ) . Maybe if we taught our school children lucrative trade work skills , they could afford to stay and raise their families. Instead of funding these illegals we should spend OUR tax dollars to take care of The REAL MAINERS …..teach kids to be electricians …not how to speak English .

This has been going on for decades and was predicted as well. So NOW they want to do something? If the people in that community want to keep it safe, they need to out these criminals and the law needs to keep them in jail or deport. Keep it simple. We don’t have a housing shortage; we have a prison shortage.
