Police spent the weekend searching for Rep. Lanigan after they received reports of a domestic violence incident occurring at around 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
Lanigan announced his plan to turn himself in on Monday morning while speaking to WMTW, and directed anyone with further questions to reach out to his attorney.
He did not make any public statements regarding his guilt or innocence.
The Sanford Police Department’s Major of Support Services and Logistics, Mark Dyer, confirmed that Lanigan turned himself in around 9:30 a.m.
Dyer declined to provide more details on the alleged domestic violence incident, stating that the investigation remains ongoing.
Lanigan is coming to the end of his first term in the state legislature, and his arrest comes less than two weeks before he will face off against challenger Democrat Patricia Kidder for his seat in the state house.
Lanigan’s social media accounts have been silent on the alleged incident.
He hasn’t posted on X since June, 2023, and has never posted on LinkedIn.
His campaign’s Facebook account sent out a newsletter on Friday morning, shortly before the alleged incident occurred.
The Maine Wire reached out to the York County Republicans’ chair, Jim Deyermond
Deyermond declined to comment because he does not have any information on the situation other than the basic information put out by the Sanford Police Department.
The Maine GOP did not respond to requests for comment.
Don’t be too quick to judge.
Get the whole story first.
I don’t like these half stories.
I’d like to report an assault on my intelligence by the liberals in Augusta. Honestly sometimes I wonder how they remember to breath.
Where and what are the DETAILS???
