An man formerly of Presque Isle, Maine, was sentenced to six years in prison this week for the possession of child pornography, following an investigation that was launched after a tip from the online messaging platform Discord.

Andrew Ladich-McGrew, 28, of Ohio, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor on Monday to 72 months in federal prison, to be followed by six years of supervised release.

He was also ordered to pay $28,000 in restitution.

Maine State Police and federal authorities launched their investigation into Ladich-McGrew in June 2020, when he was renting an apartment in Presque Isle.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant on his apartment based on a report from the online communication platform Discord that Ladich-McGrew’s account was involved in the possession of sexually explicit images of children under the age of 16.

During their initial investigation, authorities found images and videos on an online storage drive connected to Ladich-McGrew’s computer.

A second investigation in November 2020 resulted in the discovery of a computer in Ladich-McGrew’s possession that contained multiple files of child sexual abuse material, as well as an external hard drive with images showing children as young as three years old being sexually abused.

At the time of his arrest, McGrew was living in Ohio.
