The Maine Gambling Control Unit (MGCU) reported that sportsbooks in the state accepted $52.7 million in bets during December, a 1.5 percent increase from the previous month.

That gambling activity resulted in just $417,000 in taxes from the month’s wagers, according to information provided by MGCU to Covers.com.

The two legal sportsbooks in Maine, Caesars and DraftKings, recorded the following performance in December, according to Covers:

OperatorBetting HandleGross Revenue
Caesars Retail Sportsbooks$452,000$17,000
DraftKings Mobile Sportsbook$44.7 million$3.4 million
Caesars Mobile Sportsbook$7.6 million$500,000
Total$52.7 million$3.9 million

DraftKings has maintained a dominant position in Maine’s sports betting market since its launch, with its gambling volume for 2024 nearly six times higher than that of Caesars.

On the revenue side, DraftKings’ adjusted gross receipts were eight times greater than Caesars’ for the year.

However, Caesars has shown signs of optimism heading into 2025.

While DraftKings’ handle remained flat in December, Caesars enjoyed three consecutive months of increased betting, suggesting that it’s acquiring new bettors for its platform.

Per MGCU data shared by Covers, Caesars’ mobile sportsbook reported $77.2 million in wagers, generating $6.1 million in gross revenue. Meanwhile, DraftKings handled $445.7 million in bets, turning that into $49 million in adjusted gross revenue.

In Maine, all sports betting contracts have been assigned to the federally recognized Native American tribes by the State Legislature.

The Penobscot Nation has contracted with Caesars Sportsbook, while the Passamaquoddy Tribe is partnered with DraftKings.

The recent report revealing that Maine sports wagering generated $417,000 in tax revenue for December is a clear sign of the industry’s growing impact on the state’s economy. With more residents engaging in legal betting, platforms like lemon casino are becoming increasingly popular among users seeking reliable and enjoyable experiences. This boost in tax income can support public services and community projects, making regulated sports betting a win-win situation. As the market continues to evolve, Maine may see even higher revenues in the coming months, strengthening its financial foundation through responsible gaming.
