Two Maine Border Patrol Stations Get New Agents in Charge

Two Maine Border Patrol stations that cover areas of responsibility of over 100 miles of the U.S.-Canada border have new agents in charge, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced last week.

The Border Patrol designates the Houlton Sector as the entire state of Maine, its border with Canada, and its coastline. The agency maintains stations in Calais, Fort Fairfield, Houlton, Jackman, Rangeley and Van Buren, each with their own area of responsibility for patrolling between CBP ports of entry.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, CBP announced the selection of new Patrol Agents in Charge (PAIC) for the Calais and Rangeley Stations.

The Rangeley Station encompasses 81 miles of remote, heavily wooded and mountainous areas along Maine’s land border with Canada.

The Calais Station covers about 70 miles of the U.S.-Canada border and nearly 200 miles of coastline — a total area of approximately 5,300 square miles of forested areas, swamps, and a jagged coastline stretching from Vanceboro, Maine in the north to the mouth of the Penobscot River at Bucksport in the south.

CBP named James F. Trainor as the new PAIC of Calais Station, and Erich Rohr of Rangeley Station.

Both Trainor and Rohr have served in the U.S. Border Patrol for nearly three decades and have previously been stationed at areas along the southern border.

Trainor began his Border Patrol career in 1997 at the El Paso Station in Texas, and was transferred to the Calais Station in 2003, where he ascended the ranks to Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge.

Before joining the U.S. Border Patrol, Trainor graduated from Westfield State College in Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree Criminal Justice.

“Agent James Trainor has demonstrated consistent excellence throughout his career in the Border Patrol,โ€ said Juan Bernal, Chief Patrol Agent of the Houlton Sector, in a press release last week.

โ€œThe position of Patrol Agent in Charge is a critical command position overseeing all operational aspects of its respective station,” Bernal said. “The people of Maine are fortunate to have someone who has risen through the ranks within Houlton Sector and knows the local community. I do not doubt that Agent Trainor will thrive in this position.”

Agent Rohr also began his career in the Border Patrol in 1997, in McAllen, Texas, and has served on operational details at stations in San Diego, Calif., Tucson, Ariz., and the Rio Grande Valley.

Rohr joined the Rangely Station in 2024 as Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge after serving as a supervisory agent at the Grand Marais Station in northeastern Minnesota.

Prior to joining the Border Patrol, Rohr served as a Military Policeman with the U.S. Marine Corps.
