A 67-year-old Wesley man and former school bus driver for the Machias Bay Area School System (AOS 96) has been arrested on six counts of gross sexual assault against a minor.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that they arrested Duane E. Geel of Wesley on a felony arrest warrant issued by the Machias Unified Court following an investigation.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Geel is facing six counts of gross sexual assault allegedly involving a minor victim.

Deputies arrested Geel at his home in Wesley on Wednesday without incident.

His bail was set at $100,000 cash, with conditions of no contact with the minor victim or witnesses, and no contact with children under the age of 18.

The Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday that Geel remains in the Washington County Jail and will make his first court appearance on Friday at 1 p.m.

Geel formerly worked as a school bus driver for AOS 96. Although Wesley Elementary School website still lists Geel as a custodian and bus driver at the school, he resigned in 2023, according to AOS 96 Superintendent Scott Porter.

the amount of this happening around all the schools is sick! imagine what doesnt get reported or covered up! maybe we need to have a poly gragh done like becoming a cop, because finger printing and back ground checks clearly isnt’t working! maybe there might be better bills to pass than reduced crack charges, and chicken regs!!

Maybe he’s been reading some of those books they use in classroom and libraries now that talk about “exploring your gender,” and “having fun with someone else.”

Everyone assumes he’s guilty — I don’t!

Children lie, they have imaginary friends, and that’s sane children and without the DHHS Nazis coaching the child.

I didn’t know there were any male school bus drivers left, the risk of false accusations made it not worth it. It’s like witchcraft in 1692, and my guess is someone wants his land.

They clearly don’t teach The House of Seven Gables in Maine high schools anymore….

The plot is simple — the judge wants the poor man’s land because he has a nice well, and this was in Salem (MA) where there was a lot of brackish (salty) water in wells that were below sea level.

So he falsely accused the owner of witchcraft, presided over the trial and (was the law at the time) confiscated his property upon conviction. Hence judge has the land with the nice well where he proceeds to build his mansion. But the well immediately turns foul, and Hawthorne’s principle is that the evil deed (false accusation) follows the generations.

Was there witchcraft in Danvers (not Salem) — yes, I think there was. But I am damn sure that most of those accused of it were innocent.
