Are You Ready for Another King?

There’s a new Angus in Maine’s political arena and he’s gunning for the seat his father held for two terms before moving on to the U.S. Senate. Three guesses who it is and the first two don’t count.

That’s right, Angus King III is running for governor, and unlike his father who claims to be an Independent but votes with Democrats all the same, the son is dropping all pretense.

Young Angus, 54, has thrown his hat into the ring for the Democrat nomination together with Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, though others are likely to join the Democrat primary race as well. These potentially include U.S. Rep. Jared Golden (ME-CD2) and former state senator Troy Jackson.

“We’ve got a whole host of challenges ahead of us that are making it challenging to live every day,” King told POLITICO, adding “people are struggling or they’re scared.”

Up until now, King the younger has worked in renewable energy and says he brings private sector experience to the race. While he’s not wrong that Maine state government sorely needs more representation from the businesses that are straining on the tax and regulatory burden career politicians and public sector lifers keep piling on, there remains some question how ‘private’ the heavily-subsidized renewable sector really is.

With a little more than a year to go until the Democrat primary, the field of those seeking to succeed Gov. Janet Mills (D) is already growing. As the first “nepo baby” to enter the race, Young Angus now puts pressure on the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future (GOPIF) chief Hannah Pingree to jump in and force Maine Democrats to choose their favorite dynasty.

I remember when Angus was so concerned about the environment ( until there was a boatload of money to make) he refused to live in the Blaine house and commuted from Brunswick to Augusta every day.

  8. mainer on May 6, 2025 8:07 AM

He wants us to go from Queen Janet to King Angus III. No Thanks!

  9. mainer on May 6, 2025 8:09 AM

He thinks that he deserves it because of who he is! He has never held a public position in his life, but thinks he deserves to be govenor.

  10. Citizen on May 6, 2025 8:12 AM

He says from knowing his father we know his values. Good grief! His father Angus doesn’t even have the integrity needed to admit he’s really a Democrat instead of an Independent. And what did Angus III really do on his own? Wasn’t his father already in the wind energy business? Can’t help but wonder if Daddy has been using his position in the Senate to “pave the way” for son Angus’ political career. Sorry, in my opinion, like Sneaky Activist Bellows and the Golden Boy, Angus III won’t do any better for Maine than the Leftists’ Dictator General Mills.

And, let’s not forget what Pat Buchanan said of Pete DuPont IV some years ago, during the early stages of a Presidential Campaign: I paraphrase, but it’s close and still true: Buchanan stated that Americans don’t elect people who end their names with Roman numerals.

  12. Common Sense on May 6, 2025 8:25 AM

Is this Alfred E. Newman’s cousin or what ? Don’t the democrats love nepotism, nothing but “coat tail politics” ! He and Hannah can have “High Tea” in Alexandria every afternoon ! Give us a break. It’s time for the democrats to take a hike. IF IN DOUBT, VOTE EM OUT !

  13. Cayuga kat on May 6, 2025 9:42 AM

And why wouldn’t he? mills has turned this state into giant money laundering, kick back, no bid money pit knowing that the democrat voters are too stupid to see with their own eyes that they’re being screwed. God bless the retards.

We’ve seen enough of it from Augusta already and D.C. it cost more, wastes more and destroys our environment. No thanks you wanna be corrupt politician. Born here , maybe , but your no mainer .

  16. poppypapa on May 6, 2025 11:55 AM

His Pappy’s eight years of spending from the Potter St Blaine House Annex was a historic era of wild budget increases, factoring every source of one time monies into the budget baseline and worse.

Something about that look on his face tells me the last thing he should be trusted with is the key to the State House and the related bank accounts.

  22. Jon on May 6, 2025 7:52 PM

    No Fucking Way!
All of Maine problems started with Anus King!
While he forced Mainers to suffer, he pockets millions from his wind energy boondoggle.
After the disaster that’s been the Mills reign of terror, Maine has to abandon the devastatingly imbicilic Socialist Democrat agendas. Maine needs an adult as governor, not another moron Democrat, or the spawn of Anus King’s slowest sperm!
