A Maine man on the run from New Hampshire authorities due to a probation violation stemming from a domestic violence conviction and multiple drug charges has been taken into custody in Lebanon, Maine, the York County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday.

John Bauer, 43, originally from Acton, Maine, was wanted by the New Hampshire Department of Corrections for absconding from probationary supervision after being released from jail in January, following the completion of a sentence for an original charge of domestic violence assault and previous probation violations.

Bauer was also sought by New Hampshire authorities on a slew of other criminal charges, including two counts of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, possession of crack cocaine, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, operation a motor vehicle after revocation and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, Bauer was in addition wanted on a warrant out of Maine for a traffic violation.

In early May, the New Hampshire Department of Corrections published a “fugitive of the week” notice regarding Bauer.

The York County Sheriff’s Office says that they learned Bauer might have been hiding in a camper on North Rochester Road in Lebanon.

On Tuesday, York County Sheriff’s deputies surrounded Bauer’s camper in Lebanon and took him into custody.

Bauer is now being held without bail pending his extradition to New Hampshire.
