Lewiston Police are investigating a shooting that occurred over the weekend that left a man with non-life-threatening injuries from two gunshot wounds.

According to police, at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Bartlett and Walnut Street in Lewiston.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found 29-year-old Malik Hollis suffering from two gunshot wounds and hiding in a nearby apartment.

Police say an initial investigation indicated that Hollis had been shot outside and had fled into the apartment prior to police arriving at the scene.

Hollis was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where his injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

Police were able to find shell casings in an alley behind a Bartlett Street apartment building believed to be connected to the shooting.

Lewiston Police said on Tuesday that they do not believe the shooting to have been a random act of violence. Their investigation remains ongoing.
