A Greene man on Tuesday pleaded guilty to federal charges after he was pulled over in Lewiston and found with a handgun and illegal drugs.

John Labbe, 44, of Greene, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Portland to possessing controlled substances with intent to distribute and to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a federal drug trafficking crime.

The charges stemmed from a January 2025 incident in which Labbe was pulled over by Lewiston Police due to operating a vehicle unlawfully.

During the traffic stop, officers found a handgun with a laser sight in Labbe’s possession.

Police also searched a backpack Labbe was wearing, finding quantities of fentanyl and cocaine base (crack cocaine).

Investigators later searched Labbe’s cell phone and found communications in which he appeared to be arranging for the distribution of the illegal drugs.

On the two charges, Labbe faces at least 10 years and up to life in federal prison, a maximum fine of $5 million, and up to life on federal supervised release.
