The Portland Police Department has yet to release the name of a suspect arrested on Saturday for an alleged shooting incident that left New England College’s Portland campus on lockdown.

Portland Police responded to a wooded area off of the city’s Bishop Street at around 4:38 p.m. on Saturday, after reports of a man with a gun who had fired multiple shots.
The department’s Special Reaction Team (SRT) arrived on the scene, and law enforcement advised nearby residents to remain indoors. The nearby University of New England – Portland, went into a temporary lockdown in response to the incident.
At around 9:30 p.m., police arrested a suspect who they say had been experiencing a mental health crisis earlier in the day, and transported him for a mental health evaluation.
At the time of a Sunday press release, no charges were filed and police did not name the suspect or include any details on the target of the shooting.
The Maine Wire reached out to the Portland Police Department requesting details on the incident, including the suspect’s name.
The department responded, clarifying that no one was injured in the shooting, but declined to name the suspect, or say whether any charges have been filed since the press release, or will be charged.
