Update: The missing 15-year-old Jason Gilbert, of Garland, has been found and re-united with his family.

The Penobscot Sheriff’s Department is searching for a missing 15-year-old from Garland who was last seen on Saturday after leaving home on his dirt bike.

The Sheriff’s Department issued a statement on Tuesday asking for any information on the whereabouts of Jason Gilbert, 15, of Garland, who left home on his Enduro dirt bike and has not been seen since Sunday.

Deputies are requesting that anyone with information on Gilbert’s whereabouts or well-being reach out to the Sheriff’s Department.

A Facebook account for Lauren Gilbert, who appears to be Gilbert’s mother, issued a statement providing additional concerning details.

According to Lauren Gilbert, her son took his dirt bike out during a rainstorm on Saturday evening while carrying a packed army-issued duffle bag.

They first realized that he was missing when his sister went to wake him up Sunday morning and found him gone. According to his mother, Gilbert has never done anything like this in the past.

He reportedly took neither his phone nor ID and has an extremely limited supply of money.

Most concerningly, his mother warned that Gilbert has been dealing with severe emotional issues, including depression, and has expressed that he may be suicidal.

Lauren Gilbert urged people not to approach her son, but instead to reach out to the Dexter Police Department or the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

“We are desperately trying to get JJ the help he needs. We miss our boy and want him safe,” she said.
