A suspect remains at large in Lewiston following a shooting Wednesday night that left a man hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds and led to a brief lockdown at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Lewiston police officers responded to the area of 110 Pierce Street on Wednesday night at around 11:00 p.m. following reports of a shooting.

While en route, officers learned that the shooting victim, Abdiraham Duale, 24, of Lewiston, was transported to the local St. Mary’s Hospital in an unknown vehicle.

Due to the arrival of an unannounced gunshot victim, the hospital went into temporary lockdown.

Duale was suffering from seven gunshot wounds, though police described his injuries as serious but not life-threatening.

He was subsequently transferred to the Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Police did not apprehend the shooter and gave no indication that they are aware of his identity. The investigation remains ongoing, and the Lewiston Police Department is requesting that anyone with information come forward.

Authorities released no details on the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Interestingly, the victim, Duale, has faced prior legal trouble for allegedly shooting someone in 2022.

Duale allegedly shot and wounded someone in May 2022 and remained on the run for months, even after a seven-hour police standoff involving a Maine State Police tactical team. He was eventually charged in connection with that shooting.
