A duck hunter called the police Sunday morning when he discovered decomposed human remains near the bank of the Merrimack River off Wright Avenue.

The Merrimack Police Department responded and secured the area.

They requested assistance from the NH Marine Patrol due to the discovery’s proximity to the river.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are working to identify the remains.

Police did not indicate whether the death is believed to involve foul play, but they said that additional information would be released as it becomes available.
