FBI Crackdown on Violent Crime Leads to 8,629 Arrests, Including 35 in Maine, and the Rescue of Over a Thousand Children

The FBI’s national “Operation Summer Heat” crackdown on violent crime led to over 8,600 arrests, including 35 in Maine, and the location and identification of over 1,000 child victims.

Nationally, Summer Heat led to 8,629 arrests, including more than 30 fugitives wanted for murder. Law enforcement also identified or located 1,053 children and seized 44,569 kilos of cocaine, 421 kilos of fentanyl, and 2,281 weapons.

The operation, carried out over three months, deployed the bureau’s resources against criminals with outstanding warrants for violent crimes and members of violent gangs.

Nationally, the operation led to 8,629 arrests, including over 30 fugitives wanted for murder, and the seizure of 44,569 kilograms of cocaine, 421 kilograms of fentanyl, and 2,281 weapons.

The sweep also reportedly rescued 1,053 minors victimized by crime.

FBI Boston, which covers Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, made 404 arrests, seized 129 drugs, confiscated 38 weapons, and located 27 minor victims.

The FBI’s Southern Maine Gang Task Force made 35 arrests and seized multiple firearms along with 4.5 kilograms of cocaine, 713 grams of fentanyl, 478 grams of methamphetamine, and 60 grams of crack cocaine.
